Terminal - Raw, Powerful, and Real Film
Terminal is a short film that aims to highlight the negative effects of gambling and the harm that it can create in a person's life. The film tells the story of a young man struggling with his gambling addiction. The storyline will see Rav become addicted to fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs) as well as highlight the emotional and psychological toll this takes on his mental health, his relationships, and more.
Rav, the main character, is a British South-Asian and the film hopes to also highlight the experiences of people from minority communities which can often be overlooked.
While the focus may be on FOBTs, gambling addiction can come from online casinos and online sportsbooks too and this film is sure to resonate with a large audience. The UK has seen a rise in problem gambling figures as has the rest of the world and it is more important than ever that players know their rights and the policies and procedures that operators must follow. The UKGC has focused quite extensively on responsible gambling with strict guidelines that all operators must follow. These include a ban on credit card gambling, no autoplay on slots, fair and clear bonus T&Cs, and no misleading promotions or ads. Online casinos and sports betting sites must also include responsible gambling messages in all marketing.
Director Uses Personal Story
Terminal's director and writer, Sunny Bahia uses his own personal experiences of gambling harm and had this to say. "Terminal is not just a film, it's a conversation starter. Gambling addiction is a hidden struggle that often goes undiscussed, especially in communities where stigma and silence prevail."
He went on to say that his goal with Terminal was to create an artistic and compelling watch that would be socially relevant and remain true to his own experiences with gambling harm.
Gordon Moody Partnership Strengthens Gambling Harm Advocacy
The collaboration on this film will help to strengthen Gordon Moody's gambling harm advocacy. In 2021, the organization was 50 years old and has been providing treatment and support to those who have been affected by gambling. The aim of the collaboration with No Trace is to raise awareness and provide support to anyone who might be affected by the film's themes.
Gordon Moody will be hosting an exclusive screening of the film with press being invited to attend. This private screening will also include a panel discussion and will take place on the 10th of April at the Birmingham Odeon Cinema.
CEO, Monica Shafaq said, "We are thrilled to partner with Terminal to help shine a light on the challenges faced by individuals living with gambling harm, particularly within the British South-Asian community."
She also went on to say that she believes that the Terminal, a powerful film, will provide a much-needed narrative that will speak to the heart of the issue. It will also allow Gordon Moody to reach new audiences and help provide a deeper understanding of the realities of gambling harm including the stigma that is still attached to it which can often prevent people from seeking help.
Sunny Bahia said, "Having the support of Gordon Moody on this project has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I hope the film opens doors for more awareness, more support, and ultimately, more lives saved.
Gordon Moody is dedicated to offering support and their hope is that the release of Terminal will help start meaningful conversations for those that resonate with what the film explores.
About Gordon Moody
